We are now approaching the second half of the fall season, and quickly coming to the end of this year. How have you been progressing with your personal health goals? Do you know that it is never too late, or too early to take preventative measures? We don?t have to wait for a new year to start taking our health or weight loss seriously.
As we progress into the months of November and December, these two are notorious for when people?s health suffers the most. Aside from darker days and colder weather, the main culprit is the way we celebrate holidays in our society overfilling ourselves with foods that are harmful to our body. From Halloween and Thanksgiving, through the Winter Holidays and New Year?s celebrations, we seem to live off of sugar, refined carbohydrates, meats and alcohol. Bad enough on their own, consumed together these make for a dangerous combination when it comes to our health and weight. It is not a coincidence that acute infections like the cold and flu flare up around this time as the stress we put on our bodies takes a huge toll on our immune system. And yet, year after year, despite the fact that we should know better by now, we fall into the same traps.
So why not make this your year, a year where you begin new habits and new traditions when it comes to how you choose to celebrate. The holidays are meant to be a happy time and a celebration, but we neglect to celebrate the most important thing ? ourselves. It is at these times that we abuse ourselves the most, and then suffer the consequences year after year. You do not need external sugar to feel the sweetness of life. You do not need to get intoxicated to feel joyful or relaxed. It is all about awakening to new ways of living, being, cooking and eating. Our human family is evolving , and so are our habits. Real treats are supposed to treat our mind, body and overall well-being, not be harmful. Rise to the occasion, step up to the plate, and be an example and inspiration to others as you demonstrate new and smart ways of celebrating.
