Schedule change for Nashua Vets Day parade, ceremonies

NASHUA ? Concerns by downtown churches that activities associated with the city?s Veterans Day Parade will affect Sunday morning services have prompted the Parade committee to alter the schedule a bit, committee members said. Instead of taking place at the usual Parade-stop in front of City Hall, the traditional moment of silence and rifle salute that commemorates the ?11th minute of the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month? will be held at Holman Stadium, said Barry Palmer, committee member and VFW Post 483 commander. ?That exact time is sacrosanct to veterans,? he said. ?The ceremonies must take place at that time.? Palmer will speak briefly at the ceremony, which will start at 11 a.m., he said. The Parade will kick off right after the ceremony concludes, probably around 11:20, Palmer added. Though it will start a little later than usual, the Parade will follow its typical route, starting at the stadium, going down Amherst Street to Main, and marching south to the area of Main Street Marketplace and Lake Street, where it disbands. Parade participants are asked to report to the stadium around 10 a.m. for division assignments and formation. ...
