'Guardians of the Galaxy' Finds A New Screenwriter

Guardians of the Galaxy Script

Marvel Studios is always planning years ahead. Even before the studio was formed as a self-financed production house, they had Zak Penn begin writing a script for The Avengers?as far back as 2003 ? nine years before it hit theaters after various draft updates and a complete rewrite from director Joss Whedon. For their next team-up epic,?Guardians of the Galaxy, it?s a similar story.

Guardians?has always been a project Marvel President of Production Kevin Feige wanted to make a reality, and hence, they had a member of?Marvel?s screenwriting program (which began in 2009) draft a screenplay for a?Guardians of the Galaxy?live-action feature film. Now that the project has an official release date and greenlight, Marvel has found a writer to takeover scripting duties and work off of that draft.

The original?screenplay was written by Nicole Perlman and now Marvel Studios has signed?Chris McCoy to rewrite the script. Like Perlman, McCoy has no produced writing credits to his name just yet, but he has had three of his spec scripts land on the Black List ? a?list of Hollywood?s best and hottest unproduced scripts.

Guardians of the Galaxy Concept Art from Comic-Con 2012

Guardians of the Galaxy?had its August 2014 release date confirmed at Comic-Con 2012 two weeks ago and with Captain America: The Winter Soldier?already started to endure casting rumors (i.e. Anthony Mackie as Falcon), we?re only months away from Guardians?receiving the same rumor-infused treatment, as it?ll enter production next year after Cap 2?and Ant-Man.

The film will be based off the Marvel Comic series of the same name, specifically the 2008 reboot by?Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning. It?ll build off of the mid-credits scene of The Avengers, which introduced moviegoers to the cheeky grin of Thanos, a mainstay villain of the Marvel Cinematic Universe ?Phase Two? storyline. The Guardians of the Galaxy?roster includes (from left to right in image above)?Drax the Destroyer,?Groot, Star-Lord,?Rocket Racoon?and?Gamora. The characters aim to protect Earth from extraterrestrial threats and some of them live for the sole purpose of stopping Thanos (Drax, Gamora).

Iron Man 3?releases May 3, 2013,?Thor: The Dark World?on November 8, 2013,?Captain America: The Winter Soldier?on April 4, 2014 and?Guardians of the Galaxy?on?August 1, 2014.

Yeah, Pujols was really washed up

I?ve written a few posts already about how Albert Pujols has bounced back from his brutal start with the Angels to resume being a great hitter, but after his latest homer binge?which includes two bombs against the Rangers last night?he?s now leading the American League in OPS dating back to May 15:

ALBERT PUJOLS 1.060
 Mike Trout 1.043
 David Ortiz 1.028
 Miguel Cabrera 1.023
 Robinson Cano 1.010
 Jose Bautista 1.004

OK, so this post could just as easily be about how ridiculously great Mike Trout is, but let?s stick with the Pujols theme. (Sorry, Angels fans. You?ll have to just be happy with having both of them on the same team.)

In addition to leading the league in OPS since May 15?a span of 68 games?Pujols also leads the league in homers, RBIs, and slugging percentage and ranks fourth in batting average and on-base percentage. Kind of makes all that early speculation about whether he was suddenly washed-up seem pretty silly now, huh?

South Korea To Restart Its Oldest Nuclear Reactor

I've been trying to stay out of politics lately, but my ethics and concern for my country require me to reply to your posts.

In the last decade or so (after 9/11, not coincidentally) there has been a rash of cult-like right-wing nationalism and tribal "us versus them". It existed prior to this millennium, but it's been getting worse, and more concerning. The rhetoric is, in my opinion, becoming dangerous and increasingly ridiculous, and if not checked, may lead to severe consequences for our nation and the world.

You can't reason with a cult member, and likewise, with an ultra-nationalist or conspiracy theorist. The best you can hope for is that a method of cult recovery "deprogramming" comes along, or that a significant shift in the dialog marginalizes the cult.

Still, even though you won't, I encourage you (and anyone reading this who thinks as you do) to step back, get a look at the big picture, and try making friends with some people outside your echo chamber, before your rantings move any further from merely extreme into the "bat-guano insane" category. Sorry for being so blunt, but this is what conservatives would call "tough love".

For the record:

Obama is not a socialist communist fascist Muslim Brotherhood member of the Trilateral U.N. Knights Templar.

Progressives/Liberals are not your enemy, nor are they the enemy of the state. They merely favor a different approach than you do for government's role in society. They do NOT believe any less than you do in freedom or democracy. Deal with it.

When teachers make as much as military contractors or wall street traders, you can talk to me about teacher's unions. Until then, no dice.

Despite your signature's attempt to demean the concept, some ideas ARE so good they need to be mandatory. I'm sure you've heard that absolute freedom destroys freedom (it's true). Your freedom to pollute the air must knuckle to my freedom to breathe clean air, and so on.

Really, my friend, come down out of the trees. And ask some of your friends to turn off the hate mongers on the TV and radio, and come down out of the trees with you. Please do it soon, so we can avoid the less pleasant consequences that are coming if this radical polarization and crazy fear mongering continues. You don't need lots of guns and ammo. You need balance.

Your characterizations and ad hominems show extreme condescension, arrogance, and intellectual elitism, not to mention a huge dose of hubris and disregard for truth, intellectual honesty, and reality. Attitudes and beliefs such as yours are a huge part of the problem the US is in.

It's obvious we are at polar opposites and will never agree, therefor I must strive to expose those kinds of beliefs and the ideology that drives them for the shams that they are and defeat them in the public arena wherever and whe

Business Owners! Who's Guarding Your Data? Don't Gamble When It

?

By Peter Williamson

If you?re like many busy business owners, chances are you haven?t updated your online security in a while. Many business owners are willing to take a chance on whatever system they have in place and don?t even know:

? If it?s active ? If it automatically updates ? Whether it?s working

Most of us assume the security software is ?doing what it?s designed to do?: protecting our online presence, but guess what? It?s not enough to ?think? everything?s okay. Here are some things you can do to ensure you?re protected.

1) Microsoft has a collection of compatible antivirus vendors and a lot of them are free. And if you?re still running some old, and I do mean old versions of Windows, check out Windows XP on Google.

2) For you Mac users, try Sophos Anti-Virus or Norton?s iAntivirus.

3) And if you are Linux users, there?s help for you, too. Try Linux Anti-Virus .As an added measure, keep your firewall enabled.

Heads up, though. The firewall on Macs is strangely disabled by default, so be aware of that. There are few things more agonizing than having your security compromised or losing important data. Remember to:

1). Always backup you data. Think of it like a haircut. Once hair is cut, it?s hard to get it back. Same with data. Once it?s gone, it?s hard to get it back without backup. Are you backing up on an external drive? Just be sure to use an online file-sharing services like Dropbox to make sure those locations are also being protected.

2) Consider disconnecting automatic login and set the computer so that a password is needed to open it. It cuts down on convenience, true. But, your protection is worth a little inconvenience.

3) While sharing passwords or using clever ones is tempting, don?t. Case in point: hackers were able to crack Linked In passwords with everyone who used ?Link? as part of their password?

4) Don?t automatically download software that you know nothing about, just because the popup says you need it. Do the research.

5) Avoid questionable sites. Your business is your business, but going on socially unacceptable sites will increase your chances of a breach in security, exposing you to harmful software.

6) By the same token, avoid clicking on links you?re unfamiliar with. As busy business owners, we sometimes click at lightning speed through emails, only to open ones that can contain viruses that infect our computers and anyone we forward email to.

Not everyone is security savvy. Alert your friends and associates if something they have sent you is infected. By being aware of these protective measures and updating your online security, you can better ensure that precious time and important data won?t be lost.

Health Insurance Companies Must Now Provide Free Access To ...

August 1, 2012 Updated Aug 1, 2012 at 6:45 PM EDT

(Indiana's NewsCenter) -- Wednesday was the first day that health insurance companies must provide certain benefits to women for free with exceptions.

The Women's Preventative Health care Amendment goes into effect one of eight new provisions under the President's Health Care Law that the Obama Administration says will help women get the basic services they need.

Getting the most attention Wednesday is the provision that requires private insurance companies to provide women free access to contraception.

Slinking Toward Retirement | Starbucks to Open Inside Funeral ...

Some say the best way to grieve over a loved one is by being around family and friends and remembering all the good times you shared with someone who?s passed. Maybe if this was 1998. A better way is to drink a cinnamon dolce frappuccino while updating your Facebook page.

A funeral home in South Carolina will soon offer Starbucks coffee, lattes and free Wi-Fi for those grieving over their loved ones.

While a Starbucks sign won?t be displayed in the funeral home and Starbucks employees won?t actually be working on site, coffee shop workers at the Robinson Funeral Home in Easley, S.C., will be Starbucks-trained baristas and will offer the coffee chain?s official menu. And it?s not just for those grieving. The new coffee shop will also be available to the public through a patio entrance, in case you feel like swinging by a funeral home to relax and read a book while sipping an espresso.

?You walk in the front, and it?s off to the side,? Chris Robinson, general manager of the Robinson Funeral Home, told local TV station WSPA. ?It?s not like it?s right up front.?

The ?Coffee Corner,? which is on the opposite end of the funeral grounds away from the chapel, will also have a fireplace and television, and the funeral home?s owners hope it will give the bereaved another way to cope.

?It should help families escape from the stress a little bit, having a private area to get their minds off of what?s going on,? Robinson told ABC News.

Even though Robinson Funeral Home has been serving free coffee for years, the funeral home?s recent renovations got the owner to thinking that it could use something different. ?If we?re going to offer a Coffee Corner, we?re going to get the best there is,? he said.

Robinson said the new coffee shop is in keeping with the history of the funeral home, which has been in his family for generations and initially started inside a main street general store, where people gathered and drank coffee.

The funeral home?s free coffee will still be available, even after the Starbucks brew goes on sale starting in August.
